  INTERGENERATIONAL SUCCESSION: WEALTH MANAGEMENT TRUST©

We have structured a hybrid irrevocable trust, which we call the Wealth Management Trust©. This irrevocable trust recognizes that life insurance isn't the only way to transfer wealth to heirs. The asset allocation of our Wealth Management Trust© includes three classes:

  • Survivorship Life Insurance
  • Municipal Bonds
  • Stock Index Funds

Our strategies include funding accounts for children and grandchildren using annual gifts equal to the maximum exclusions, which are $24,000 per couple for 2006.

In addition, we counsel on the most efficient use the of the $4.0 million lifetime tax-free transfer amount ($2.0 million per person lifetime exemption as of 2006). We generally encourage early use of this lifetime tax-free transfer amount, as the present value of this tax-free lifetime gift is rapidly diminishing! Most savvy estate owners will leverage this tax-free benefit using tax-advantaged tools like munis, tax-efficient index funds and life insurance.

The Wealth Management Trust© can be an indispensable tool for estate owners with liquid assets of $1 million or more. When properly structured and funded, it will allow more of your wealth to stay within the clan. With our assistance, clients often pay less in estate taxes, avoid generation skipping taxes, provide health and education funds for children and grandchildren, and insulate assets from judgment creditors.
